I'm the numbers' guy

Post by 42317 on 2009-02-04, 15:42

Hi there!
I'm just hailing from the Animetric Discussion Board, bumping in after I realized there was such a thing as a "Zorori Project". I was actually looking for something completely different on Animesuki. Very Happy

I watched Zorori when I was an exchange student in Japan in 2003-2004 (I studied Japanese literature, theater, and history) and I'm happy to find a little group of fellow fans. I mean, hey, it's for kids, right? cheers Still, I like it and it was very nostalgic watching the first episode again after all these years. Thanks for your efforts, I appreciate it.

I'll be frank. As much sympathy as I have for someone spreading the word about Zorori in the western hemisphere, offering translated versions aimed at the average animefan who cannot understand Japanese, personally I would be very much interested in the collection of RAW files which you guys use to create the fansubs. You'd have my lasting gratitude if you made these available additionally to your honorable fansub endeavors.

In other words, I'd owe you one. I will probably not become a very regular visitor since my time, as anybody else's, is limited and concerning my free time I'm already involved in Animetric, but I will be reading any PMs sent to me. As I mentioned I'm a specialist on pretty much anything Japanese, so I can answer such questions if need be.
If someone has a translation problem I'm willing to help, too, but I cannot take part in whole projects, I have enough translation projects to work on currently. No, no Anime or Manga stuff, I'm afraid, more like business translations and stuff, like in mudskipper research. alien

よろしくお願いします!

Actually as of Series 1 we don't really use RAW's per say, they are directly subbed from the original vobs/dvds and promised not to redistribute those. We do have the original TV captures of the entire series but we don't currently use them. Unfortunately even providing the original TV raws would also be infeasible, they alone total 34+GB, and unfortunately most of us don't have gobs of unlimited bandwidth anyways and attempting such a large file send and we would be owing our ISP's one too :S

That being said, it would create a very awkward situation in any event, especially considering we're still trying to secure Series 2 (HQ) and would make it very awkward to do so if we couldn't keep our promises.

*sigh* So unfortunately we have to decline your request Embarassed

Yeah, we use the original dvds for our subs so we can't just go handing them out to whoever wants them. We'd get flooded with requests for them too often. And like Acru said, handing out the tv raws would take a serious toll on our bandwith.

I understand... that's perfectly valid. I assumed you had a TV cut or something.
Damn shame...
Well now, since you are offering fansub downloads via Animesuki... how about bundeling them?
Downloading a package of episodes is more convenient than one by one.
And how about soft subs?
Although, eventually, I'd rather get Zorori with hard subs than not at all. Very Happy

Actually was planning on bundling it into one final 1-52 bundle whenever we complete series 1.

As for soft subs, I actually dabbled in that for awhile and the results never came up to anything even remotely to par. I started with H264's which were even higher quality, but some of the effects and even the beginning Zorori logo caused the video to slow down. I switched to XVID codec and it didn't improve performance any (Quad core Q6600) Eventually tracked it down to the fact that everyone involved had to run the CCCP codec pack in order to get playback of the softsubs to work correctly. So in order to get softsubs working we would pretty much have to gut the karaoke out and anything with too much code, and even then, even the fonts we choose would have to be bundled in with the video file so the text would display properly on other peoples machines.

Since Zorori is a niche anime, we really don't have the resources available to us (and especially me) to start thinking of softsubbing when we haven't even finished the series yet heheh

OMFG!
It's in fact been TWO years since I came here... I would have sworn that it was just last year.
I was so damn busy with work, almost to the breaking point.
I hope you guys are doing well?
SO... how did the project develop since then?
